Efforts of the Foreign Ministry are continuing unabated to follow up on the situation of Egyptian citizens in Turkey and Syria following the devastating earthquake that struck the two countries almost two weeks ago.

One Egyptian woman has been reported dead in Turkey’s Hatay province, the ministry said in a statement Saturday 18/02/2023.

The body of the victim was transferred to one of the province’s hospitals, added the statement.

The Egyptian Embassy in Ankara is maintaining coordination with the Turkish authorities to finalize all the procedures related to issuing the death certificate, as well as the burial process, added the statement.

The ministry, meanwhile, expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the quake victim.

The ministry further affirmed the keenness of the operations room at its consular sector to stand on the latest conditions of the Egyptians in the earthquake-stricken areas.

The horrifying 7.8 magnitude earthquake and aftershocks in Turkey and Syria have claimed the lives of more than 42,000 people in both countries, making it among the deadliest worldwide over the past decade.
