The Foreign Ministry announced that the UN General Assembly approved re-election of Egypt as member of of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for two years 2023/2024.
The ministry added on “Facebook” on Wednesday 21/12/2022 that Egypt’s re-election comes after the country had obtained the support of the African Group in New York.
Egypt’s Permanent Delegate to the UN in New York Osama Abdel Khaleq said such election is mainly reflecting Egypt’s contributions to boosting peacebuilding efforts in Africa.
Abdel Khaleq said Egypt will remain committed to maintaining work with all parties concerned to promote efforts aimed at fostering efficiency of the Commission, through provision of sufficient and sustainable financing for peacebuilding activities.
He underscored the significance of allocating financing to build peace within UN budget to help Peacebuilding Fund respond to requests by member states, especially in Africa to maintain peace in the continent.
The PBC is an intergovernmental advisory body that supports peace efforts in conflict affected countries, as indicated on the United Nations website. The Commission comprises 31 members.
