Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Director of the Public Diplomacy Department, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, stated that Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received a phone call on June 4, 2024, from the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Lord David Cameron, in which they discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip.

The Spokesperson indicated that the call tackled the proposal presented by the U.S. President regarding reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, swapping hostages and detainees, and the mediation efforts carried out by the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Qatar, and the United States of America, during the various stages of implementation of this proposal.

In this regard, the two sides stressed their support for these efforts, emphasizing the need to urge the parties to finalize the agreement to halt the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

During the call, Minister Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s support for all actions aimed at putti
ng an end to the Israeli war against Gaza, guaranteeing full and unimpeded access of humanitarian aid for the aggressed-upon Palestinian people in Gaza, as well as ensuring the complete withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, and the safe return of displaced Palestinians to their homes throughout the Strip.

Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the call also discussed the crisis humanitarian situation in Gaza, whereby Minister Shoukry reiterated the necessity of pressuring Israel into complying with its legal obligations being the occupying power, and halting its military operations in the Strip, including in the Palestinian city of Rafah, in addition to the inevitability of opening all land crossings between Israel and Gaza to provide full access of aid into the Strip, and providing safe conditions for the operation of international relief crews inside the Strip.

Finally, the two sides agreed to continue close consultation and coordination to keep pushing towards achieving a ceasefire in
