FM, US Secretary of State Discuss Regional Developments, Ceasefire Efforts


Egypt’s Foreign Minister (FM) Dr. Badr Abdel Atty received a phone call on Wednesday 14/8/2024from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to consult and coordinate on key developments in the region.

During the phone call, the two sides reviewed the ongoing efforts to contain the current escalation in the region and work towards a ceasefire in Gaza. They discussed the outcomes of their respective communications and efforts in this regard.

Dr. Abdel Aty emphasized the urgency of reaching an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, ensuring full access to humanitarian aid, and positively engaging with the Egyptian-Qatari-American mediation efforts.

He also stressed that serious negotiations with genuine political will are the only way to stop the escalation in the region and prevent the conflict from spreading.

Moreover, the phone call also touched on the efforts to resolve the crisis in Sudan, particularly in light of the Geneva meetings.

In this regard, Abdel Atty reiterated Egypt’s support for all ef
forts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Sudan to end the suffering of the Sudanese people and safeguard their lives and properties.

In response, Blinken expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s role in promoting security and stability in the region.

Furthermore, both ministers also discussed several bilateral issues, underscoring the importance of the strategic relationship between the two countries and agreeing to continue consultations and coordination in the coming period.
