FM, Turkish Counterpart Discuss Catastrophic Humanitarian Situation in Gaza

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry made a phone call, on Wednesday 26/6/2024, with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, according to Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Ministry of Foreign Affairs official spokesperson.

The call addressed the overall bilateral relations between the two countries and the arrangements for holding the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council between Egypt and Turkey.

The official spokesperson added that both sides exchanged views on several regional and international issues, foremost among them the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip. The call discussed the latest developments and the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Both parties emphasized the need to ensure greater access to humanitarian aid to the region to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians, who are facing extremely difficult humanitarian conditions due to the restrictions imposed by the Israeli side on aid entry and its reluctance to provide the necessary protection and conditions for the distribution
of aid and ensuring its delivery to those in need.

Moreover, Abu Zeid explained that both sides stressed the urgent need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire and warned of the risks of expanding the conflict and instability in the region due to the Israeli-Lebanese escalation.

They highlighted the potential extremely dangerous consequences that could spiral out of control.
