FM Stresses Depth of Historic, Strategic Ties Between Egypt, Oman


Muscat: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty underlined the depth of the historic and strategic relations binding Egypt and Oman, especially after a visit by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Muscat in 2022 and a visit by Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said to Egypt in 2023.



According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty highlighted the directives of the leaderships of both countries on furthering relations at all levels and taking tangible steps to meet the aspirations of their people to achieve more progress and prosperity. Abdelatty made these remarks during a meeting in Muscat with Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said.



The meeting addressed means of enhancing bilateral ties alongside a range of issues of mutual concern. The foreign minister conveyed the greetings of President Sisi to Sultan Haitham and the Omani people, along with his wishes for more progress and prosperity. He voiced appreciation for the leadership of the Omani sultan and the positive role played by Oman at regional and international levels.



Abdelatty emphasized the importance of promoting economic, trade, and cultural cooperation with Oman. He reviewed the institutional reforms carried out to ease measures for investors, particularly in updating the legislative mechanism of the public sector, in light of the government’s interest in attracting foreign investments.



He also asserted the preparedness of Egyptian companies to enhance their contribution to infrastructure development projects in Oman, given Egypt’s extensive experience in this domain. Abdelatty underlined the importance of cooperation to promote Arab security, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to coordination and consultation with Oman in consolidating security and stability in the region, especially amidst unprecedented tension in the Middle East.



The meeting covered a host of regional issues of mutual concern, including the Palestinian cause and the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip. Efforts by Egypt to contain regional escalation and achieve a ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages were also discussed. Both sides exchanged views on the conditions in Syria, Yemen, Sudan, and Libya.



Furthermore, the talks addressed the Red Sea file and the importance of ensuring security for international trade, which directly impacts the security of countries bordering the Red Sea.
