FM Spokesperson Announces Initial Phase of Arab Plan to Clear 50 Million Tons of Rubble in Gaza

Cairo: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Tamim Khalaf revealed that the Arab plan for early recovery and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip includes the removal and recycling of around 50 million tons of rubble in its first phase. Khalaf shared these details during a television appearance, outlining the comprehensive nature of the plan that spans from 2025 to 2030.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Khalaf explained that the reconstruction plan is structured into three main phases. The initial phase, lasting six months, focuses on early recovery efforts. This is followed by two phases dedicated entirely to reconstruction activities. In the first phase, temporary housing units will be provided for Palestinians, with thousands of mobile homes and tents being set up to shelter 1.2 million people in Gaza.

Khalaf elaborated that the subsequent phases of the plan include the construction of 400,000 permanent housing units designed to accommodate 2.7 million Palestinians. The spokesperson emphasized that the primary objective of the Arab plan is to ensure that Palestinians remain on their land, preventing any form of displacement.

The plan also addresses the neutralisation of unexploded ordnance, which Khalaf identified as a critical preliminary step before commencing reconstruction in Gaza. Furthermore, the plan aims to initiate major infrastructure projects, including the rebuilding of the road network, which has suffered significant damage.

In addition to these efforts, the plan includes the construction of a port, solar power stations, government administration centres, healthcare units, hospitals, and schools, underscoring the comprehensive approach to rebuilding Gaza’s infrastructure and supporting its population.
