FM Shoukry continues meetings in Davos on sidelines of World Economic Forum

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed on Tuesday 24/5/2022 the recent developments in the Palestinian territories with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadai on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, the Egyptian foreign ministry said.

Shoukry and Safadi also discussed the latest developments in the Arab region, where they agreed on the need for working out political solutions to the region’s crises in order to achieve stability and prosperity for the Arab people.

On Monday, Shoukry also held meetings with counterparts and foreign officials on the sidelines of the forum.

Shoukry, the president-designate of the UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (COP27), met on Monday with Special Representative for Climate Change Affairs of China Xie Zhenhua, where they discussed cooperation and consultation on climate-related issues between Egypt and China.

During the meeting, Shoukry expressed Egypt’s aspiration to continue working with China to contribute to the success of COP27, which is set to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh in November.

The spokesman added that the meeting also took up means of supporting African countries’ efforts in the field of climate change, given that they are highly affected by the impacts of climate change despite having contributed the least to global warming and having the lowest emissions.

Also on Monday, Egypt’s top diplomat spoke with CNBC news channel about the global economic crisis, where he said that the Egyptian government has put in place economic and monetary tools to help with inflation in the country.

“We also reached out to our traditional partners, the United States and Western Europe, and we maintained our relations with Ukraine and Russia in the provision of wheat in particular, but also other food stuff like oil and maze,” he told the economic news channel, adding that Egypt is working to diversify its supplies from other countries.

When asked about the relations with Gulf countries that supported Egypt recently with financial investments, Shoukry said that the relationship between Egypt and the Gulf countries is strategic, and their national security was interlinked.
