Cairo: Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, participated in the 23rd extraordinary session of the African Union Executive Council, which convened virtually on Monday, November 25. The session concentrated on various critical reports concerning the African Union’s activities and its engagement in the G20.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdelatty emphasized that the African Union’s inclusion in the G20 signifies a significant milestone for the continent, providing a platform to advance African priorities on the global stage. These priorities encompass development financing, reforming multilateral banking policies, and tackling the pressing challenge of sovereign debt, issues that have gained urgency as financial and economic challenges intensify across African nations. He reaffirmed Egypt’s dedication to supporting South Africa’s G20 presidency and stressed the necessity for more substantial involvement of African Union member states in defining and refining t
he Union’s priorities and assessing its periodic participation in G20 meetings.
The Minister also lauded the African Union Commission’s report on the progress in reviewing the Union’s financial and administrative matters. He pointed out that the report demonstrates the Commission’s commitment to enhancing governance and transparency. He underscored the importance of building upon these positive advancements while addressing existing challenges, especially in governance and oversight, to fortify transparency and accountability among member states, ultimately enhancing institutional performance.
