Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held a meeting on September 26 with the European Union EU Special Representative for the Gulf region, Luigi Di Maio, on the sidelines of his participation in the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York
Minister Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s perspective on the serious developments unfolding in the region, stressing the need for a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza and the importance of preventing the expansion of the conflict in light of Israel’s dangerous escalation in Lebanon. He also emphasized the necessity of avoiding the region’s slide into a regional war.
The Foreign Minister indicated that the key to de-escalation in the region lies in the necessity of ending the Israeli war on Gaza. He also emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to resolving the crisis in Yemen, expressing Egypt’s support for all efforts aimed at reaching an inclusive political solution to the Yemeni crisis, in accordance wi
th the Gulf Initiative, its implementation mechanisms, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and UN Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2216. He noted that this would be achieved in a way that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people and alleviates their humanitarian suffering.
Minister Abdelatty also stressed Egypt’s unwavering support for the unity, independence, and territorial integrity of Yemen, highlighting the crucial importance of Yemen’s security and stability for Egyptian national security, as well as for the security of the Arab region and the Red Sea. He underscored the need for the EU to play its role in mitigating the worsening humanitarian crisis faced by the Yemeni people and to provide necessary funding for UN relief programs in Yemen. Additionally, he expressed Egypt’s support for relevant UN efforts and outlined Egypt’s initiatives in providing various forms of assistance to the Yemeni people.
