Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met on Sunday with Speaker of the Egyptian Senate, Counselor Abdel Wahab Abdel Razeq. The meeting was part of the Foreign Minister’s visit to Parliament to engage with members of the Foreign Relations Committees from both the House of Representatives and the Senate, led by Karim Darwish and Hazem Omar, respectively.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, reported that Minister Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the collaboration between Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to participating in committee sessions in both legislative bodies, emphasizing the necessity of outlining Egypt’s foreign policy principles and demonstrating the Ministry’s efforts to support and protect Egyptians overseas.
Minister Abdelatty discussed the core principles guiding Egypt’s foreign policy and the challenges encountered in the regional context. He highlighted Egypt’s positions on regional and international matters, especially recent developments concerning the Palestinian cause. He reviewed the outcomes of the Arab Summit and the Ministry’s efforts to support the Arab plan for Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction. Topics such as Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Sudan, the Ethiopian dam, and the Horn of Africa were also addressed.
The Spokesperson mentioned that the Minister emphasized the role of Egyptian missions abroad in bolstering national development and economic growth by establishing a joint business council, expanding markets for Egyptian exports, and attracting foreign direct investment. He also pointed out initiatives to enhance Egyptian-African relations across various sectors.
In terms of consular services, Minister Abdelatty reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to delivering top-tier services to Egyptians abroad and pursuing digital transformation to improve these services. He stated his commitment to regular dialogues with Egyptian expatriate communities to understand their issues and needs.
The meeting concluded with an interactive discussion where the Foreign Minister and committee members explored regional and international topics, consular affairs, and strategies to support Egyptians living abroad.
