Cairo: In the press briefing held during the Cairo International Conference to Enhance Humanitarian Response in Gaza, Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty emphasized the urgent need to secure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region, highlighting that shipments are being looted.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the minister pointed out that the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip is worsening due to the collective punishment policy adopted by Israel, compounded by siege and famine imposed on civilians. Minister Abdelatty stressed the critical need for humanitarian aid, particularly with the onset of the winter season. He mentioned the necessity for thousands of trucks to deliver aid daily to Gaza once sufficient quantities can be transported.
The minister also emphasized that Israel must withdraw from the Palestinian side of the Rafah Border Crossing and Philadelphi Corridor, advocating for the Palestinian Authority to take control. Minister Abdelatty argued that Israeli intransig
ence would not bring about peace and security in the Middle East and called for the full membership of the Palestinian State in the UN General Assembly.
Furthermore, he declared that both Egypt and Jordan would not accept any displacement of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank, marking it as a red line and stating that such actions would effectively liquidate the Palestinian cause. The Egyptian foreign minister stressed the importance of Palestinians having their independent state.
In addition, the minister praised the efforts of the UN leadership and organizations in alleviating the crisis in the Gaza Strip. Deputy UN Secretary-General Amina Mohamed addressed the issue of evictions and house demolitions in the West Bank, as well as the destruction of hospitals and schools in Gaza. She emphasized the need to remove any obstacles to aid delivery and empower the UNRWA to meet the needs of Palestinian refugees, warning that international law is in jeopardy due to the ongoing Gaza War.
The Egyptian foreign
minister also highlighted the necessity of containing the situation in Syria to prevent repercussions on neighboring states and the broader region.
