On Monday, September 9, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, welcomed Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, at Tahrir Palace for an expanded session of talks attended by delegations from both countries.

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the Ministry’s spokesperson and Director of Public Diplomacy, reported that Abdelatty highlighted the historical ties between Egypt and Syria, emphasizing the importance of ongoing coordination through mutual contacts and meetings.

He reiterated Egypt’s support for Syria in combating its challenges and rejection of foreign interference in Syria, advocating for the respect of Syria’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. He underscored the need for a political solution to the Syrian crisis in line with international guidelines.

The spokesperson added that the Minister expressed Egypt’s desire to enhance coordination with Syria within the Arab League to advance mutual interest
s and strengthen joint Arab initiatives, while stressing the need to activate the Arab Contact Committee on Syria to help address the challenges faced by the Syrian people.

Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the meeting touched on the crisis in the Gaza Strip, where Dr. Abdelatty stressed the importance of continuing to work for a ceasefire in Gaza and ending the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, and making all necessary efforts to prevent the expansion of the war to other fronts.
