FM Holds Talks with EU Commissioner for Mediterranean on Strategic Partnership


Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held political talks on Sunday with EU Commissioner for Mediterranean Dubravka ‚¬¦ uica’s on the Egyptian-European relations and the latest regional and international developments of mutual interest.



According to State Information Service Egypt, the foreign minister expressed Egypt’s eagerness to collaborate with the EU Commission in supporting cooperation within the framework of implementing the six axes of strategic and comprehensive partnership. Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, Tamim Khalaf, emphasized the importance of the economic segment in this strategic partnership, highlighting Egypt’s focus on attracting European investments.



The foreign minister informed the EU official about promising investment opportunities across various sectors in Egypt, underscoring the significance of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) as a global logistic center. He also pointed out the potential for cooperation in the energy sector.



The discussions included exchanging views on the latest regional developments of mutual interest, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip. Abdelatty outlined the Egyptian efforts towards ensuring a sustainable ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the ongoing plans for its reconstruction. He stressed the necessity of achieving a just and permanent resolution to the Palestinian issue, aiming for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.



Furthermore, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Syria, emphasizing the importance of respecting its sovereignty and unity. He also mentioned the significance of the Lebanese government securing parliamentary confidence, marking an important step towards achieving security and stability in Lebanon. The talks also addressed the situation in Sudan, with the foreign minister reiterating Egypt’s full support for the Sudanese people.
