FM Heads for the USA to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty headed Sunday to the United States to meet a number of officials at the newly-elected administration as well as MPs, in the framework of reinforcing bilateral relations, strategic partnership between the two states, and holding consultations on regional developments.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed the latest developments in implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza last week during a phone call with Steve Witkoff, the US Special Envoy to the Middle East. Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that this call was part of ongoing coordination and consultation between Egypt and the new US administration, following up on a previous call between President Sisi and US President Trump on February 1.

The official spokesman highlighted that the call included consultations on the progress of implementing the Gaza ceasefire agreement and efforts to fully realize its three phases. Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of sustaining and solidifying the agreement and advocated for the swift and substantial delivery of humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip, given the dire humanitarian conditions there.

Minister Abdelatty also underscored the vital role of the United States in ensuring the ceasefire agreement’s execution and in seeking a final resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict according to international legitimacy resolutions. He stressed the importance of achieving lasting peace in the region, ensuring security and stability, and ending the long-standing conflict, in collaboration with the Trump administration.
