FM heads for Kampala to attend 19th NAM summit on behalf of Sisi

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Thursday 18/1/2024 headed for the Ugandan capital Kampala to lead Egypt’s delegation to the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The summit will convene on Friday and last for two days.

Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said that the summit is held in Kampala this year as Uganda is chairing the Movement during the period between 2024 and 2027 following the end of Azerbaijan’s presidency.

Abu Zeid added the summit convenes this year under the title ‘deepening cooperation for the sake of joint, global welfare.’

More than 120 countries will participate in the summit, he said. The spokesman added Egypt is paying a greater attention to NAM for the country is supporting its principles.

NAM has become very important amid growing political, economic and security challenges facing developing states at present, he said.

Abu Zeid said the agenda of the foreign minister includes delivering Egypt’s speech
on behalf of the president and holding a number of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the foreign ministers of member states on joint relations and current regional and international issues and challenges.
