Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry hailed the outcome of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) as they clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of multilateral action.

Shoukry’s remarks came in a speech that he delivered at a climate action session on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Group of 77 and China, currently held in New York on December 15 and 16, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid.

The spokesman added the foreign minister reviewed the COP27 results on the international climate action, notably the Sharm El Sheikh Implementation Plan that focuses on transforming climate pledges into a reality on the ground, and the establishment of the first the loss and damage fund, as well as enhancing the international efforts to adapt to climate change and mitigate its impacts.

Shoukry stated that Egypt’s presidency of COP27 was keen to come up with concrete and balanced results, despite the current global challenges, on top of which are geopolitical tensions and the crises of energy and food, in addition to the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.
