FM Engages with UN Coordinators on Gaza Humanitarian Efforts


Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, received the United Nations Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza and United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Sigrid Kaag, in a meeting focusing on political and humanitarian issues.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting followed the recent discussions held with Arab foreign ministers and officials in Cairo, addressing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the facilitation of humanitarian aid. Minister Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s significant role in implementing the ceasefire’s phases and maximizing aid entry into Gaza. He also engaged with the UN official’s insights on the current humanitarian situation and her related communications.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted Minister Abdelatty’s call for increased international community and UN support for Palestinians in Gaza. Discussions included plans for an upcom
ing conference hosted by Egypt in cooperation with the United Nations aimed at Gaza’s reconstruction. The Minister stressed the necessity of international backing for the conference to enable comprehensive aid, service restoration, early recovery initiatives, and infrastructure rehabilitation.

Minister Abdelatty further urged the UN official to ensure continued follow-up on financial commitments made by donors during the Cairo Ministerial Conference last December. The focus remains on enhancing the humanitarian response in Gaza.

Reiterating Egypt’s stance, the Foreign Minister called for secure and sustainable aid access through border crossings, the re-establishment of the Palestinian Authority in Gaza, and Egypt’s readiness to provide essential aid to Palestinians. He underscored the importance of supporting Egypt’s efforts in delivering humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
