The Foreign Ministry on Friday announced that Egypt was selected as a member of an Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) to draft and negotiate a WHO convention, agreement, or other international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.
Egypt’s selection came in the first meeting of the INB that was established under a WHO decision issued in November 2021, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its official Facebook page on Friday.
The ministry noted that the meeting saw the election of the body members, where counselor Ahmed Salama Suliman, the deputy head of Egypt’s diplomatic mission to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, was picked as the INB deputy chairman for the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
Egyptian Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva Ambassador Ahmed Ihab Gamal eldin said Suliman’s selection to represent Eastern Mediterranean countries in the INB reflects the great confidence given by the region’s states to Egypt.
