Asmara: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty visited Eritrea on Friday, where he delivered a verbal message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Eritrea’s President Isaias Afwerki. The message focused on strengthening and developing bilateral relations, along with addressing regional issues of mutual interest.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tamim Khallaf, stated that the visit follows up on a historic trip by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Asmara in October 2024. The visit also aims to activate a tripartite coordination mechanism between Egypt, Eritrea, and Somalia, following January’s first ministerial meeting in Cairo.
The discussions during the meeting emphasized strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in various domains to serve the mutual interests of both nations. Additionally, they exchanged viewpoints on regional issues of mutual interest, particularly focusing on the situation in Africa a
nd supporting peace and security in the Horn of Africa.
The meeting also addressed providing support to Somalia in combating terrorism and reviewed the latest developments in Sudan. Furthermore, they discussed the situation in Libya and the Sahel region of Africa, as well as recent developments concerning Red Sea security and governance.
President Afwerki expressed Eritrea’s eagerness to promote bilateral ties across different domains, aiming to meet the aspirations of both countries and reflect the historical ties between them.
