Entebbe: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, met with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, delivering a message from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasizing the importance of enhancing the strong ties between Egypt and Uganda in various fields.
According to State Information Service Egypt, during the meeting, Minister Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s commitment to bolstering economic and developmental links with Uganda. He highlighted the existing cooperation framework, reflected in joint projects inaugurated over the past two years, such as the AFRI Egypt Medical Center for Health Care in Jinja, a solar energy station in Busia District, and rainwater harvesting initiatives. Furthermore, approximately 25 Egyptian companies are actively investing in the Ugandan market, with total investments reaching $100 million.
Minister Abdelatty also introduced a new investment mechanism targeting projects in Nile Basin countries, aiming to finance infrastructure, including wat
er projects in southern Nile Basin regions. He emphasized Egypt’s willingness to discuss Ugandan projects needing funding and explore opportunities for tripartite cooperation with other development partners.
The discussions also covered joint cooperation programs, particularly those managed by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development, which is involved in capacity building and training of Ugandan personnel. Regional and international issues were also on the agenda, with both sides addressing recent developments in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa, notably the situations in Sudan and Somalia. The minister reiterated Egypt’s commitment to regional integration and cooperation among Nile Basin countries, advocating for development across Africa while adhering to international law.
President Museveni expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s leadership and conveyed his greetings to President Sisi. He affirmed Uganda’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Egypt and emphasized the i
mportance of continued coordination and consultation on matters of mutual interest.
