FM Calls for Unified OIC Action Against Threats to Palestinian Cause

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatti emphasized the centrality of the Palestinian cause to the Islamic world and the importance of unity in facing attempts to liquidate the issue and extinguish the hopes of the Palestinian people in recovering their homeland, through acts aimed at their displacement and the annexation and occupation of their territories.

According to State Information Service Egypt, this statement was made during Abdelatti’s participation in an extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Jeddah-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which convened to address Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

In his address, Abdelatti highlighted a comprehensive plan proposed by Egypt, developed in consultation with the State of Palestine, aimed at the early recovery, reconstruction, and development of Gaza. This plan, adopted by the extraordinary Arab summit in Cairo, seeks to safeguard the Palestinian people’s right to rebuild Gaza, maintain their presence on their land, and tackle the dire conditions in the Gaza Strip caused by the Israeli conflict.

The minister outlined the Arab plan’s three-stage vision for recovery and reconstruction and announced Egypt’s intention to organize a Gaza reconstruction conference in partnership with the Palestinian government and the United Nations. This initiative aims to gather international support for the Arab plan’s execution and establish a trust fund under international oversight.

Abdelatti affirmed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to end the conflict and stabilize the ceasefire agreement through its three phases. An agreement with the Palestinian side to form an independent committee to manage the Gaza Strip temporarily, paving the way for the return of the Palestinian Authority, was also mentioned.

The foreign minister cautioned against any Israeli actions targeting Al-Aqsa Mosque, including violations of its sanctity, assaults on worshipers, or disruptions to its established legal and historical status.

The OIC meeting fully endorsed the outcomes of the extraordinary Arab summit, praising the Arab plan for Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction as a comprehensive strategy to support the Palestinian people in reclaiming normalcy.

The extraordinary session of the OIC’s Council of Foreign Ministers concluded with a resolution adopting the Arab summit’s outcomes and the Gaza reconstruction plan. It called on the international community and financial institutions to provide immediate support for the plan and stressed the need for a political pathway to achieve a lasting and just solution to the Palestinian issue, fulfilling the Palestinian people’s legitimate aspirations for an independent state.
