The inaugural International Conference on Universities and Artificial Intelligence Technology began in Amman on Monday, featuring participation from 50 Arab and Chinese universities.
The two-day event aims to foster the exchange of experiences and ideas, focusing on leveraging AI technology to advance higher education. Organized by the Association of Arab Universities through collaboration with the China Association of Higher Education, Ajloun National University, and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, the conference seeks to explore how AI can drive real development in the educational sector.
Amr Salama, Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, emphasized during the conference that AI is transforming life and education. He highlighted AI’s role in personalizing learning, providing continuous support through smart teaching systems, and streamlining administrative processes.
Salama noted that the Association represents 450 universities from 22 Arab countries
and is dedicated to advancing higher education through scientific research, digital transformation, capacity building, quality assurance, gender equality, and women’s empowerment.
Firas Hanandeh, President of Ajloun National University, stated that the conference aims to enhance understanding of AI and its technologies, address challenges and opportunities in the field, and present innovative research. He added that it provides a platform to explore AI’s practical applications across various industries, review best practices in AI for education, and promote innovation and entrepreneurship.
Hanandeh also mentioned that discussions at the conference include the ethics of AI in education, the future of higher education amid digital transformation, and the role of AI in business and emerging technologies.
Chinese Ambassador to Amman, Chen Chuandong, stressed AI’s significant role in modernizing various development sectors. He emphasized the value of exchanging knowledge and experiences between Chinese and Arab
universities to enhance education and training in higher education.
On the sidelines of the opening, participants visited a university exhibition showcasing AI technologies, with organizers providing brief explanations of the displayed innovations.
