Fintech Summit Middle East kicks off in Amman

Amman: The fifth edition of Fintech Summit Middle East was launched in Amman on Wednesday to discuss the latest innovations, challenges and the future trends of this industry.

The summit saw participation of 300 professionals from the financial technology sector, payment systems, banking business, retail trade, e-commerce, technology companies, startups and investors.

Speaking at the event, Director of E-Payment Operations and “Sanad” App. at Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmed Alyan, said digital transformation, innovation and creativity are an urgent necessity to keep pace with global and technological development.

Alyan noted the Jordanian government seeks to keep pace with world developments and benefit from the “best” global practices and available opportunities, which would enable it to transform into a “distinguished” digital government.

The government, he noted, has implemented over the past years a “large” number of comprehensive infrastructure projects that constitute a “stro
ng enabling” factor to move the Kingdom to the next levels of digitization, public services and e-payment services at the national level.

During the last ten years, Alyan said the Kingdom’s payments sector has witnessed a “remarkable” development in e-payment systems and services based on the use of mobile phone applications, or internet platforms in carrying related local and international processes and financial transfers.

This progress has made the Kingdom at the forefront of countries in the region that have developed an e-payments system that enjoys standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency to support and meet needs of Jordanian society, he pointed out.

Alyan indicated that the Jordanian government is committed to enhancing digital payments for all applicable government services, a drive supported by the Cabinet decision No. (6425) issued September 15, 2019, which obliges all ministries to digitize their payments.
