CAIRO: Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk emphasized on Thursday the importance of comprehensive stability and a clear economic vision for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). During a round table discussion on international housing financing at the twelfth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12) in Cairo, he discussed the significant role of the private sector in financing and managing projects efficiently.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the event was attended by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Rania el Mashat and Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) Anacláudia Rossbach. The discussions highlighted the necessity of a comprehensive strategy and multiple plans of action tailored to sustainable, green, and smart urbanization for achieving SDGs at the local level.
Kouchouk underscored the importance of generating sufficient revenues to cover both recurrent expenditures and long-term investments, which are vital for support
ing comprehensive and sustainable local development. He further elaborated on the need for financing climate action and sustainable development, emphasizing that financing should be an integral part of projects from the outset.
The minister also noted that the ministry is receptive to various forms of financing, including blended and domestic financing, to support these initiatives.
