Finance, building capacities are crucial to accelerating climate action: African official

DUBAI: Esther Fotabong, Director of Agriculture, Food Security and Environmental Sustainability at the African Union Development Agency – NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD), has affirmed that climate finance is of major importance for African countries, emphasising the need to see global commitments come to life.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), Fotabong said that the resources of most African countries are limited, noting that the industrial world must work hand in hand with governments and with local communities, through resource support and sharing technology, to boost the capabilities of African countries.

She highlighted the importance of the announcements made and initiatives launched during COP28, especially for African countries, adding that the Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems, and Climate Action is of particular significance to AUDA-NEPAD, as it is a first in COP history and sets a clear vision for add
ressing these issues.
