Fellowship on compliance with law launches in Azraq

The activities of the Momtathel (compliant) fellowship project under the Ed O’Brien Rule of Law for Peaceful Society Fellowships kicked off in Azraq on Wednesday. The Momtathel fellowship, which is implemented by the Street Law Foundation, in cooperation with the Arab World Center for Democratic Development and Human Rights, aims to build and strengthen the capacities of young people in terms of compliance with the rule of law, find a new perspective to deal with corruption issues and promote societal peace in an effective and innovative manner through cooperation and partnership with the municipality, community institutions and associations within the judiciary. Azraq Municipality Mayor Yahya Zein El-Din stressed the importance of the royal directives on the need to strengthen the rule of law as a basis for a civil state and access to principles and democratic transformation centered around youth participation in public work, adding that the municipality is working diligently to reach a sustainable and developed society by creating an effective partnership between all segments of society, from individuals and civil society organizations to state institutions. Human rights project advisor Samir Jarrah, who represents the Street Law Foundation, said that the rule of law project came as an immediate response to the royal visions in the sixth discussion paper by building an integrated national project nearly four years ago. Several workshops and specialized and in-depth training on the rule of law were held, he noted, explaining that 855 employees in the public sector, including members of provincial and municipal councils, and 650 young persons and academics have been trained in a number of Jordanian universities in that regard. The Ed O’Brien Fellowships were the fruit of a competition, where more than 40 fellowship projects designed by young people participated, and six were ultimately chosen according to international principles and standards. It is worthy to note that the Ed O’Brien Fellowships aim to involve young people in decision-making and public policy development and to promote concepts of the rule of law in various fields within an effective national model based on partnership and cooperation with official and local institutions within the governorates.
