The European Union’s High Representative Josep Borrell condemned new Israeli forces’ strikes on a hospital and a school serving as shelters for displaced persons in the central Gaza Strip.

‘Dozens of civilians seeking safety were killed and injured in dreadful circumstances,’ he said in a post on X.

‘Mass evacuation orders, violations of International Humanitarian Law and disregard for civilian casualties will not make Israelis safer,’ stressed the European Union’s High Representative.

Earlier today, four civilians were killed and around 40 others were injured in an Israeli airstrike that targeted tents for displaced persons near Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza. The strike ignited a significant fire that engulfed approximately 30 tents.

On Sunday evening, an Israeli shelling of the “Al-Mufti” school, which shelters thousands of displaced persons in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, resulted in the killing of 22 civilians, including 15 children and a woman. Approximately 80
others were injured in the attack.

Israel, the occupying power, persists in its acts of genocide, disregarding the United Nations Security Council’s resolution calling for an immediate cessation of these actions, along with the International Court of Justice’s orders to implement measures to prevent acts of genocide and to improve the critical humanitarian situation in Gaza.

It also defies the request from chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, to issue arrest warrants for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and so-called Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing their responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

The Israeli occupation has turned Gaza into the largest prison in the world, enforcing a blockade for the 18th consecutive year. The ongoing genocidal war has compelled nearly two million of the roughly 2.3 million residents to flee their homes amid catastrophic conditions, suffering from severe and deliberate shortages of food, water and m
edicine.
