EU warns of rapid spread of polio in Gaza

The European Union warned on Tuesday against the rapid spread of polio in Gaza, stressing that the disease poses a real threat to the lives of children in the Strip.

According to Aki, the Italian news agency, the EU’s foreign policy commissioner, Josep Borrell, said in statements on Tuesday that the rapid spread of polio threatens Gaza’s children who have become vulnerable due to displacement, deprivation, and malnutrition, reiterating his call for an immediate 3-day humanitarian ceasefire in the Strip to enable UNICEF and the World Health Organization to conduct vaccinations for Gaza’s children.

On August 16, the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced the first confirmed case of polio in the Gaza Strip, in conjunction with the reduction in the entry of aid due to the obstacles imposed by the occupation as part of its starvation policy against the population of the Gaza Strip.
