Head of European Union (EU) Energy Platform Task Force Cristina Lobillo on Tuesday 17/10/2023 said Egypt is a key partner of the EU in the domain of energy and climate action.

She added that the EU is keen on having Egypt as main part in its various projects and initiatives.

The EU official made the remarks during a meeting with Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek el Molla to discuss efforts meant to boost co-operation between Egypt and the EU with regards to the decarburization of the oil sector, co-operation in Hydrogen field, as well as preparations for the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in the UAE.

Lobillo extended the invitation of European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson for minister Molla to take part on the events and initiatives set to be launched by the EU at the COP28 regarding the efficiency of using energy and decarbonisation.

EU Energy Platform plays a key role in pooling demand, coordinating infrastructure use, negotiating with international partners and preparing for joint gas and hydrogen purchases.

The EU Energy Platform aims at coordinating EU action on global markets to prevent EU countries from outbidding each other, whilst leveraging our political and market weight to effectively diversify supplies, introduce direct competition between the world’s largest suppliers and achieve better conditions for all EU consumers.

To date, the EU Energy Platform has played a key role in diversifying supplies, increasing efficiency of infrastructure use, and negotiating with reliable international partners.

Under the deal, the Cairo Airport Company will submit to the Chinese company a proposal for the engineering works, procurement, construction and financing to develop Cairo Cargo City.
