ERC opens kidney dialysis centre in Comoros


MORONI: The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) inaugurated the “Mother of the Nation Dialysis Centre” in Mohéli Island in the Union of the Comoros, in the presence of President Azali Assoumani of Comoros and a delegation from ERC headed by Obaid Al Balushi, Director of the Relief and Disaster Preparedness Department.

The centre, which is located in the vicinity of Fomboni Hospital, is the first of its kind on the island. It includes a dialysis ward consisting of 8 dialysis units, a medical warehouse to provide approximately 5,000 sessions annually.

President Assoumani expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the support that the UAE – and its humanitarian arm, the ERC – provide in the service, development, and relief fields. He stressed that the UAE’s humanitarian efforts mirror distinguished relations that bind his country with the UAE.

The President of the Comoros said that the opening of the centre is a reflection of the UAE’s commitment to supporting humanitarian causes around the world in accordance with
an institutional work and a clear approach.

For his part, Obaid Al Balushi, stressed the ERC’s keenness to monitor humanitarian needs globally to adopt projects that meet these needs to alleviate the burden of human suffering, especially that caused by chronic diseases. This, he said, embodies the UAE’s pioneering role in the fields of charitable and humanitarian work.

Al Balushi explained that the Authority seeks – through its projects – to fulfill its humanitarian role, and to extend a helping hand to the in disadvantaged communities. He expressed his hope that the “Mother of the Nation Dialysis Centre” would contribute to providing much-needed dialysis services to patients in Mohéli Island.
