Environment, tourism ministers launch green development for tourism project

Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad and Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled El Anany launched on Saturday 28/05/2022 a project of green development for the tourism sector in the presence of Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Alessandro Fracassetti and a galaxy of ambassadors.

The project, the first of its kind in Egypt, aims to improve the performance and sustainability of the tourism sector in line with Egypt Vision 2030 and as part of Egypt’s preparations for the UN COP27, the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry said in a statement.

This project had been prepared by the Mainstream Biodiversity Into Tourism Development Project of the ministry, which is implemented through the Environmental Affairs Agency in cooperation with UNDP funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the presidential “Prepare for Green” initiative.

The guidelines manual to the best environmental practices in tourist restaurants was launched to be more sustainable and cost-effective, in addition to, the guideline for eco-lodges, which is the first step of its kind to organize the eco-tourism market in Egypt and increase investments in and outside nature reserves.

The green list campaign was also launched that aims to aims to increase tourists’ awareness of eco-hotels and tourist facilities bearing eco-labels.
