Environment min. discusses with US climate envoy preparations for COP27

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad discussed with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry Egyptian-US cooperation pertaining to ongoing preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference, COP27, set for the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh in November.

During a meeting Thursday 1/9/2022 with the US climate envoy, on the sidelines of her participation in meetings of the Ministers of Environment and Climate of the G20, currently held in Indonesia, the minister of environment said her ministry is currently studying a dlrs 10 billion financing, easy-loan and private sector investment grant generated by the international development partners within the framework of National Investment Platform for Green Projects and Climate Action, known as NWFE, together with a number of donor parties.

According to the minister, the meeting with the US official took up ways of promoting Egypt’s climate action drives, including financing and investing in climate projects topping Egypt’s climate action agenda.

For his part, Kerry lauded Egypt’s preparations for COP27, affirming full support to it to render the event a success.

He said Egypt is among the countries that have trodden the right path down the road toward green transition.

NWFE is a national project and a regional approach to link international climate and development issues, while mobilizing concessional development finance for a package of priority green development projects in the food, water and energy sectors.
