Emirati women are cornerstone in partnership, sustainability: UAHR

ABU DHABI: The Union Association for Human Rights (UAHR) has emphasised that Emirati women are a cornerstone in partnership, development, and building bridges for sustainability.

On the occasion of Emirati Women’s Day, Dr. Fatima Khalifa Al Kaabi, President of the UAHR, highlighted the significant position that Emirati women hold under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which has enabled them to achieve numerous local, regional, and international accomplishments.

Dr. Al Kaabi pointed to the vital role of Emirati women in sustainable development, which has been made possible through the extensive support and follow-up from H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, (Mother of the Nation) Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF).

She also praised the unique Emirati experience highlighted in various international reports, most recently the 2024
World Competitiveness Report, where the UAE ranked second globally in the percentage of women in parliament, with women holding around 66 percent of public sector jobs, including 30 percent in senior leadership positions.

Dr. Al Kaabi emphasised the UAHR’s commitment to continuing its efforts to support and enhance the role of Emirati women in the human rights field.

Maryam Al Ahmadi, UAHR Vice President, spoke about the wise leadership’s encouragement of Emirati women to take roles in the human rights field, most notably through the launch of the National Strategy for Empowerment of Emirati Women. This strategy provided a framework for the government, the private sector, and civil society organisations to develop plans that position the UAE among the most advanced countries in women’s empowerment.

She also expressed her gratitude to H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak for her support of Emirati women, ensuring the sustainability of achievements and their active participation in preserving sustainability for
future generations, in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to extend the Year of Sustainability initiative through 2024.

Israa Ali Al Ameri, a member of the Board of Directors of the UAHR, noted that Emirati women accomplished numerous achievements since the era of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who paved the way for women to take significant strides alongside men in all stages of development, ensuring that the UAE’s flag remains high and that the country continues to lead in various global indicators.
