Cairo: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat announced a new energy strategy with the objective of increasing the contribution of renewable sources to the energy mix to 60% by the year 2040. The announcement was made on Friday, November 1, 2024, during a discussion of a report on the Electricity Ministry’s action plan.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the recently-approved strategy emphasizes increasing reliance on renewable energy sources. It also focuses on rationalizing the use of traditional energy and reducing the dependence on fossil fuels. The aim is to cut carbon emissions and support the transition towards a green economy.
The strategy outlines a plan to raise the supply of electricity generated from renewable sources in the energy mix to 42% by 2030. This initiative is part of the broader effort detailed in the new energy strategy aimed at 2040, which seeks to significantly enhance the role of renewables in the country’s energy landscape.
