DUBAI: Emirates Health Services (EHS) is participating in the annual national campaign to raise awareness about seasonal influenza, launched by the Ministry of Health and Prevention under the slogan “Immunise Yourself, Protect Your Community”.
In collaboration with several other health authorities, EHS is rolling out its approved plan to combat seasonal influenza, with the goal of raising awareness about the importance of vaccination as an effective preventive measure and training healthcare providers on global best practices to curb its spread.
Dr. Shamsa Lootah, Director of the Public Health Department at Emirates Health Services, stated that EHS is adopting a proactive approach to fighting seasonal influenza. Efforts are being intensified to enhance the readiness of healthcare staff and facilities, while also increasing public awareness about the importance of getting vaccinated to boost prevention rates and reduce the risk of complications and the spread of the disease.
Dr. Lootah explained that season
al influenza is a viral infection that spreads quickly and easily among all age groups, primarily affecting the respiratory system during an incubation period of 2 to 4 days. It is transmitted through the nose and mouth, eventually reaching the lungs. Receiving an annual flu vaccine is one of the most effective ways to prevent infection.
Dr. Lootah emphasised that, as part of its efforts to increase vaccination coverage and protect the community from influenza and its complications, EHS is committed to making the influenza vaccine available at all its healthcare facilities. The vaccine is provided free of charge to UAE nationals and the most vulnerable groups, such as pregnant women, children under five, individuals with chronic illnesses, People of Determination, and those over 50 years old.
As part of its plan, EHS is disseminating campaign messages via social media platforms, digital outlets, and various media channels. It is also organising workshops and awareness lectures for employees in both the publ
ic and private sectors, as well as for school and university students, and the community at large. These efforts align with the UAE’s national strategies for combating seasonal diseases like influenza and other communicable diseases.
