Egypt’s UNESCO Candidate Khaled el Enany Meets Pope Francis at the Vatican


Vatican City: Egypt’s candidate for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director-General post, Khaled el Enany, has paid a visit to Vatican City, where he held a meeting with Pope Francis at the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Enany was accompanied by Minister Plenipotentiary Wael Abdel Wahab, with Egypt’s Ambassador to the Vatican, Hussein El-Saharty, highlighting the significance of the visit in statements. During their meeting, Enany shared his vision for UNESCO, emphasizing that peace and mutual respect are fostered through dialogue and culture.

Enany pointed out that dialogue and education serve as bridges connecting hearts and minds, and stressed that science and knowledge are essential tools for maintaining human dignity. The discussion also highlighted the importance of empowering women and elevating their status, which in turn uplifts entire societies.

Both parties emphasized the necessity
of listening to and respecting the majority of voices that are often unheard. They acknowledged the pivotal role UNESCO plays in preserving the world’s cultural and natural heritage, promoting comprehensive education, and advancing science, technology, and culture. They also highlighted UNESCO’s contribution to fostering global understanding and tolerance.
