Egypt’s UHIA, NBE, Medical Syndicate Partner to Boost Healthcare Financing

Cairo: The Universal Health Insurance Authority (UHIA), National Bank of Egypt (NBE), and Egyptian Medical Syndicate signed an agreement on Tuesday to improve access to affordable financing for medical facilities joining the Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS). Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, witnessed the signing ceremony during the UHIA Annual Forum.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Ihab Abu Aish, Vice Chairman of UHIA, described the agreement as a key step in supporting these facilities, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) providing primary and secondary healthcare. The new partnership focuses on a range of healthcare providers, including private clinics, specialised medical centers, radiology centers, and medical laboratories, all classified as SMEs under the Central Bank of Egypt’s (CBE) definition.

The partnership between UHIA, NBE, and the Egyptian Medical Syndicate will help medical facilities meet the accreditation and regulatory standards of the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR), ultimately raising the quality of healthcare services nationwide.

Osama Abdel Hay, Head of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, reiterated the syndicate’s commitment to assisting doctors in obtaining the necessary licences for medical projects covered by the agreement. This collaborative effort is expected to significantly strengthen Egypt’s healthcare system and expand access to quality medical services for all Egyptians.
