Egypt’s Population Witnesses Significant 500,000 Increase in Just Five Months


Cairo: The population clock atop the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) building announced that Egypt’s domestic population has reached 107.5 million, marking an increase of 500,000 people in just 154 days.



According to State Information Service Egypt, the population of Egypt was recorded at 107 million on November 2 of last year. The census indicated that the first increase of a quarter million people was recorded on January 13, bringing the total population to 107.25 million within 72 days. Another quarter million was added within the following 82 days.



Cairo topped the list of the ten most populous governorates with a population of 10.4 million. Giza ranked second with 9.7 million, followed by Sharqia with 8.1 million, Dakahlia with 7.2 million, Beheira with 7 million, Minya with 6.5 million, Qalyubia with 6.3 million, Sohag with 5.9 million, Alexandria with 5.6 million, and Gharbia with 5.5 million.
