Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly officially inaugurated the 55th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair on Wednesday 24/1/2024.
Held under the theme “Creating Knowledge… Preserving the Word,’ the fair will be open to the public on Thursday, 25 January, and last until 6 February.
The 55th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair, held on an area of 80,000 square metres, features over 550 events, 5,250 exhibitors, and Norway as the distinguished guest country.
Notably, the Cairo International Book Fair will honour Egyptologist Salim Hassan as Person of the Year. Similarly, the Children’s Book Fair, running alongside the Cairo Book Fair, will celebrate children’s literature pioneer Yaacoub El-Sharouni as Person of the Year.
The Cairo International Book Fair’s five exhibition halls host 1,200 publishing houses from 70 countries.
The impressive line-up includes 500 events held throughout the fair, covering various literary and cultural topics.
Visitor’s Guide
The fair, which takes place
at Egypt International Exhibition Centre in New Cairo, will be open for visitors Sunday-Wednesday from 10 am to 8 pm and to 9 pm on Thursday and Friday.
Tickets for the fair can be easily purchased on-site at the ticket booth for 5 pounds or through the fair’s official website.
Visitors can easily reach the fair using 11 designated bus lines provided by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and the Public Transport Authority.
The bus lines operate from several main squares in Cairo, ensuring convenient access for attendees.

Norway Takes Centre Stage
In a joint press conference held on 24 January, Hilde Klemetsdal, the Ambassador of Norway to Egypt, expressed gratitude f
or the invitation extended to Norway as the guest country.
Boasting its status as one of the biggest globally, the fair presents an exciting opportunity for Norway to showcase its literature, art, and culture to an Arab audience, said Klemetsdal.
Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit is set to inaugurate the Norwegian program with the participation of Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Espen Barth Eide.
Norway’s participation in over 50 events, organized by Norwegian Literature Abroad (NORLA) in collaboration with the Children’s Book Institute in Oslo, will offer visitors a diverse literary and cultural journey.
This high-level participation underscores the significance for Norway of the Cairo International Book Fair and bilateral relations between Norway and Egypt.
