Cairo: The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Saturday 22/3/2025 said that the implementation rate of the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) process in Egypt has recorded 63 percent in 2023, while the average global rate stood at 57 percent in the same year.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this announcement was made by the United Nations Environment Program, based on a survey conducted in collaboration with CAPMAS in 2023.
The CAPMAS made the announcement in a press release issued to mark the World Water Day, which is celebrated on March 22 of each year, and is celebrated this year under the theme ‘Glacier Preservation.”
The amount of groundwater (deep and surface) reached 9.09 billion cubic meters, with a contribution rate of 11.1 percent of the total available water resources in 2023, compared to 8.83 billion cubic meters, with a contribution rate of 10.9% of the total available water resources in 2022, according to the CAPMAS.
Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land and related resources to maximize economic and social welfare in an equitable manner, without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems.
IWRM is a cross-sectoral approach that is increasingly recognized as the solution to traditional, fragmented sectoral approaches to water resources management that have led to unsustainable use and poor services.
