Cairo: Egypt fully supports Sudanese institutions and sovereignty, as well as the integrity of its territories, Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty told his new Sudanese counterpart Ali al-Sharif in a Monday phone call. Abdel Aaty congratulated the Sudanese Acting Foreign Minister on his position, highlighting the special nature of Egyptian-Sudanese relations and their deep historical ties.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the two ministers reviewed the latest developments in Sudan, emphasizing that Egypt will continue to stand by Sudan in light of the delicate circumstances and dangerous historical turning point it is going through until it overcomes this difficult stage. The two ministers exchanged views on a number of regional files, stressing the centrality of the water issue for Egypt and Sudan as downstream countries.
The call reflected a complete convergence of views between the two states regarding the issue of water security, which is an existential issue for both countries.
