The Ready-made Garments Export Council of Egypt (RMGEC) said the sector’s exports hit dlrs 1.44 billion in the period from January to July 2022, marking a 35 percent rise in comparison with the same period in 2021.
In a statement Monday, the council said the US led the importing countries from Egypt in terms of ready-made garments, as its imports rose to dlrs 820 million in the first seven months in 2022 against dlrs 595 million in the same period 2021.
Egyptian ready-made garments exports to Europe also increased by 26% to hit dlrs 266 million in the above mentioned period, compared to dlrs 212 million in the same period last year.
Exports to Arab countries increased to 33%, reaching dlrs 195 million in the seven months, against dlrs 146 million in the same period last year.
The council noted that it will take part in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) – which will be held in Egypt in November – in order to review the latest achievements in the clothes and textiles sector in the field of recycling and turning the industry’s waste into a chance for contributing to sustainable economic growth.
