Minister of Environment Yasmine Foud said Egypt’s experiment of integrating the environmental dimensions into the country’s development plans sets an exemplary model for many countries as it emphasizes the importance of protecting the environment while fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of the future generation to meet their own needs.
During a special session Egypt held on Tuesday 9/11/2021on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) under the rubric; ‘Practical ambition toward changing the climate change strategy in Egypt… lessons learned from switching to renewable energy’ the minister highlighted Egypt’s multi-lateral incentive work program aimed at implementing more sustainable projects.
Fouad said the transformation to renewable energy usage is a key pivot in the country’s plan to reduce gas emissions, face up to the impact of climate change, protect natural resources and open new vistas for green investments in the economic and tourism spheres.
She further accentuated the necessity of addressing all climate-related issues, together with administrative, financial and political challenges facing them.
Taking part in the session were Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghafar and Minister of International Cooperation Rania el-Mashat, among others.
COP26 is the 26th United Nation’s (UN) Climate Change Conference. It is being held at the SEC Center in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, between Oct. 31 and Nov. 12.
