Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Osama Abdel Khalek underscored the necessity of immediately stopping the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

He stressed the need of implementing UN resolutions on ceasefire and ensuring the safe and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

The delegate’s remarks came while participating in a meeting of a number of Arab ambassadors with UN Secretary General António Guterres on Saturday 19/10/2024.

Abdel Khalek called for a unified international position on Israeli violations of international humanitarian law.

He highlighted the deteriorating situation in Gaza due to Israel’s never-ceasing attacks on civilians along with hindered deliveries of life-saving food aid to northern Gaza because of the Israeli siege.

He also spotlighted the expansion of the Israeli aggression to include Lebanon and Syria in flagrant violation of related resolutions of UNSC and UNGA since the onset of the crisis.

Abdel Khalek rei
terated Egypt’s complete rejection of Israeli attempts to stop the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

The representative posted the UN chief on tireless efforts exerted by Egypt as far as mediation for ceasefire is concerned and the country’s constant contacts with all effective countries to de-escalate the regional situation.

The UN secretary general was also briefed on Egypt’s painstaking efforts to unify Palestinian ranks and support the Palestinian Authority, according to Abdel Khalek.

He emphasized Egypt’s commitment to supporting the rights of the Palestinians and the resumption of peacemaking overtures.
