Egypt’s Ambassador and Saxony’s Prime Minister Discuss Educational and Economic Partnerships


Cairo: Egypt’s Ambassador to Germany Mohamed El Badri and Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony Michael Kretschmer met to explore avenues for enhancing higher education cooperation and facilitating the migration of skilled Egyptian workers to Saxony to address labor needs.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place during Ambassador El Badri’s visit to Saxony, in anticipation of Kretschmer’s scheduled visit to Egypt from April 8 to 10. During this visit, the German official is expected to inaugurate the Saxony Egypt University for Applied Science and Technology (SEU).

In discussions with Dirk Panter, Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Protection, Badri explored opportunities for economic cooperation and strategies to boost bilateral trade volumes. Conversations also covered collaboration on renewable energy and green hydrogen projects, and the benefits offered by the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) to German investors.

o engaged with executive officers from the chambers of commerce and industry in Dresden and Leipzig. Both the Egyptian and German representatives expressed a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in vocational training, inspired by the success of the German Hotel School El Gouna (GHS). This institution is noted for producing highly skilled staff for Egypt’s tourism and hotel sectors.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of establishing more such educational institutions in Egypt and exploring further partnership opportunities in the renewable energy and green hydrogen sectors.
