Egypt’s amb. in Brussels holds meetings with MEPs, Belgian lawmaker

Egypt’s ambassador in Brussels Badr Abdel Ati on Friday had a number of meetings with several members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and a Belgian lawmaker.

The diplomat met with MEPs Urmas Paet, Gilles Lebreton and Petar Vitanov and Belgian MP Andre Flahaut, the former defense minister, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its Facebook page on Friday.

Abdel Ati highlighted Egypt’s key regional role in reaching a peaceful settlement to conflicts and combating terrorism and illegal immigration.

He praised growing ties between Egypt and the European Union and Belgium in different fields, particularly after President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to Brussels in February.

He also lauded the role played by Belgian companies in implementing a number of large projects in Egypt in the infrastructure and the clean energy domains.

The ambassador also pointed out that the Ukrainian crisis has negative impacts on Egypt’s economy, especially in the domain of food security.
