Egypt’s Agricultural Exports Reach Record $10.6 Billion, Minister Announces

Cairo: Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, revealed on Sunday that Egypt’s agricultural exports have reached a record $10.6 billion this year, marking a 17 percent increase compared to the previous year. This surge in exports, which includes both fresh and processed products, highlights Egypt’s growing role in the global agricultural trade.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Farouk addressed the challenge of fragmented land holdings, which involve over 3.2 million farmers and hinder agricultural development. The government is tackling this issue by expanding contract farming systems and providing affordable financing options at a 5 percent interest rate to improve productivity.

The minister highlighted ongoing investments in land reclamation projects in the New Delta, Upper Egypt, and Toshka regions. He underscored the need for modern farming techniques and efficient irrigation systems to enhance productivity and maximize economic returns from agricultural exports.

Supporting small farmers and promoting value-added agricultural products remain key government priorities. Minister Farouk called for increased farmer participation in contract farming systems, emphasizing the potential for optimizing land use, reducing waste, and fostering a more sustainable agricultural sector.

The government is also working on promoting modern agricultural practices, organic farming, and streamlining export processes to remove bureaucratic obstacles. Minister Farouk reiterated the government’s commitment to collaborating with farmers, focusing on agricultural investments, and revitalizing agricultural extension services.
