Egypt and Saudi Arabia announced that consultations between the two sides held through the Follow-up and Political Committee resulted in reaching a consensus in viewpoints and visions regarding a number of issues and crises facing the region and the world with a special emphasis on the depth of strategic ties binding the two countries.
This came in the final communique issued by the Follow-up and Political Committee meeting held on Thursday night and co-chaired by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saudi.
The communique said the committee meeting comes to crystallize the historical and brotherly ties binding the two countries and as part of their keenness on enhancing spheres of bilateral cooperation in all domains in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Saudi King Salman bin Abdel Aziz Al Saudi. The meeting also activates the articles of the memorandum of understanding, which stipulated establishing the Follow-Up and Political Consultation Committee, signed in Cairo in June 2007.
The two sides also reviewed the distinguished relations between the two countries in all domains, praising the achievements realized as regards coordination in the political, economic, security and cultural fields.
The two countries reviewed the latest developments in the region and agreed on the importance of sustaining coordination of efforts to support the national states and ensure security of their peoples.
They also stressed the importance of enhancing joint Arab action and the role of the Arab League within the framework of mechanisms to support it in terms of settling regional crises in accordance with the relevant international agreements and the principles of the international law.
Egypt and Saudi Arabia asserted in the final communiqué issued by the Follow-up and Political Committee the importance of the Palestinian cause as a central issue for the Arab nation, and that a just and comprehensive solution requires the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the borders of 1967.
“The Arab security cannot be divided,” the two sides said, stressing the importance of the joint Arab action and solidarity to maintain the Arab national security.
They hailed a recent meeting held between the foreign ministers of Egypt and Gulf Cooperation Council countries on Sunday to launch a mechanism for political consultation.
“The meeting was a key step toward setting up an institutional framework for the Egyptian-Gulf relations, which will allow holding periodical meetings at the level of foreign ministers and senior officials,” they said.
The two sides also underlined their rejection of any attempts by regional parties to interfere in the domestic affairs of the Arab countries, threaten their stability or undermine the interests of their peoples whether through sectarian incitation or terrorism.
They also agreed to continue fighting the terrorist organizations in all forms in the region, and reviewed the efforts exerted in this regard.
