Egyptian-Qatari Joint Statement Highlights $7.5 Billion Investment Plan and Regional Cooperation


Cairo: Egypt and Qatar issued a joint statement on Monday following Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to Doha and meeting with Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. In the statement, both sides confirmed that discussions reflected the depth of bilateral relations, characterized by mutual trust. The discussions addressed ways to develop cooperation in various fields to enhance common interests and open new horizons for integration and partnership.



According to State Information Service Egypt, the two sides emphasized the importance of strengthening economic cooperation and agreed to continue joint work to enhance investment and economic exchange. Egypt and Qatar also affirmed their commitment to supporting the economic partnership between the two countries. They agreed to work toward a package of direct Qatari investments totaling $7.5 billion, to be implemented over the next phase.



The joint statement also underscored the two nations’ firm stance toward the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, emphasizing their right to establish an independent state on the June 4, 1967, lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with peace initiatives and relevant international resolutions. The two sides affirmed their support for efforts to achieve Palestinian national reconciliation and the need to unify Palestinian ranks.



In addition, the two leaders reiterated their full support for the Gaza reconstruction plan and expressed their aspiration for an international conference, hosted by Egypt, in cooperation with regional and international partners. They expressed concern over the continued escalation in the Gaza Strip and emphasized the importance of achieving an immediate and sustainable ceasefire.



The statement also reflected Egypt and Qatar’s concern over the ongoing armed conflict in Sudan, emphasizing the importance of an immediate cessation of military operations and a return to the comprehensive national dialogue process, in a manner that preserves Sudan’s unity and sovereignty.



Moreover, the two sides welcomed the continuation of indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran and affirmed their support for any peaceful efforts aimed at reducing tension in the region. Qatar expressed its support for the nomination of Dr. Khaled El-Enany, Egypt’s candidate, for the position of Director-General of UNESCO, recognizing his academic and cultural career.



The statement concluded with both countries expressing satisfaction with the progress achieved in bilateral relations and emphasizing the importance of building on recent achievements within a framework of mutual respect and a shared vision for future security, stability, and prosperity.
